Choosing Life

Thank you all for your continued prayers and fasting for the woman we have been calling "Rebecca" whose story began back in June when I asked you all to pray for her to change her mind as she had scheduled an abortion for Friday, June 26 to have her precious unborn baby killed.
Since then, so much has happened.
In August, I asked you again to pray when, because she had chosen life, her boyfriend had beaten her to within inches of her life and had purposely attacked the baby by hitting her repeatedly in the stomach. Again, abortion became a temptation as several doctors echoed the sentiment that the baby would never survive, and she should simply "terminate now". Their prognosis was that the baby's kidneys, lungs and heart would fail because of the lack of amniotic fluid. Bravely, Rebecca refused their offers for abortion again and again, at each prenatal appointment, and faced what we knew would be an agonizing battle for her precious baby's life.
With God's grace, Rebecca grew in her faith, and prepared her heart for what may come, while praying and hoping for a miracle. She was scheduled for a C-section delivery on January 21.
On Saturday, January 9th, the vigil of the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, Miracle Gianna was born at 9:32pm at Abington Hospital through an emergency C-section. I had the profound honor of being the first to hold her in the delivery room, and to hold her close to her mother through the procedure.
When she was born, the neonatologist determined that there was nothing they could do to prolong or save Miracle's life. Her lungs were not functioning, even with help, and her heart rate was sinking fast. He determined that it was best to allow her to be with her mother, rather than be put through treatments that would not be able to help her. She was alive as we held her, greeted her, kissed her, and instantly fell in love with her.
She was Baptized in the delivery room.
After the surgery was complete, Rebecca was given Miracle to hold, and she went to a recovery room where we took pictures, and the nurses dressed her up in her beautiful white Baptismal dress.
At 11:00pm, Miracle Gianna passed away. She was beautiful and peaceful, and in no pain.
I have never witnessed something so painful, but so glorious at the same time- I was able to witness the triumph of Baptism. I was able to witness the end of a mother's heroic fight for her child against all odds, and the witness she gave to everyone present during the agony of her child's only hour and a half on this side of the womb. This baby girl had more of an impact in an hour and a half, than I will ever be able to express in an email.
Thank you all so much for your prayers throughout this difficult journey.
There will be a funeral, but the details have yet to be determined. Please check the website of the Pro-Life Union of Southeastern PA for an update.
We deeply appreciate all of your continued prayers, and ask that you understand how incredibly difficult this time is for our staff and for Rebecca and her family.
May God Bless you in His mercy,
Jessica Chominski
