Tell Lawmakers You Oppose Abortion Funding (NRL)

A showdown vote in the House is likely to occur
before the end of March!

President Obama and top Democratic congressional leaders have launched a final all-out push to enact a massive health care restructuring bill that, among other things, contains sweeping pro-abortion provisions.

The Senate passed the pro-abortion legislation (H.R. 3590) on December 24. However, so far the White House and Democratic leaders have been unable to muster the votes to pass the bill in the House of Representatives, partly because of resistance to the pro-abortion provisions among House pro-life Democrats, led by Rep. Bart Stupak, and vigorous opposition from the National Right to Life Committee and others.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is currently involved in writing a new bill that would make certain changes to H.R. 3590, using a fast-track procedure called "reconciliation" that would not be subject to a Republican filibuster in the Senate. This so-called "sidecar" bill will include some of the changes that President Obama wants made to the Senate bill, as contained in a list released by the White House on February 22. However, the changes proposed by President Obama would fix NONE of the abortion problems in the Senate-passed bill.

This is no time to relax. Each member of the House should be urged to oppose the Senate-passed health bill (H.R. 3590), no matter what cosmetic changes are proposed or promised, because of the provisions that would result in abortion mandates and abortion subsidies. It is especially important that House Democrats who voted for the Stupak-Pitts Amendment on November 7, 2009, hear from constituents in opposition to the Senate bill.

Here is what you can do right now to prevent enactment of this destructive legislation:

E-MAIL
Visit NRLActionCenter.com and take a few minutes to use the form there to send messages to your U.S. House member and to your two U.S. senators to urge them to oppose the health care legislation backed by President Obama. You can modify the suggested message as you see fit -- for example, to offer your views on other components of the legislation, including those relating to rationing of lifesaving medical treatments. When you fill in your mailing address, your messages will automatically be directed to the appropriate U.S. House member and to your two U.S. senators.

CALL
Also, telephone the offices of your U.S. House member. Give your name and address, and tell the lawmaker's staff person that you wish to be recorded as "opposed to the Senate health care legislation, H.R. 3590, because the bill contains multiple pro-abortion provisions and is unacceptable." The offices of any House member can be reached through 202-225-3121. You can also find the direct-dial numbers (and fax numbers) for the Washington and in-state offices of your representative by clicking here.

WRITE
Send short letters to the "letters to the editor" features of your local newspapers, in order to alert your fellow pro-life citizens to the pro-abortion policies that the Obama White House and the pro-abortion lobby are trying to smuggle into law through "health care reform." Click here for an easy to use "Media Guide" on the NRLC website.

We Cant End Abortion Without Them (PFL)

Dear Friend of Life,

This verse from Proverbs 14:12 perfectly describes our situation in America today:

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

For almost forty years now, politicians have cowered before the abortion god and steered our nation down the path of death.

And yet, in His mercy and wisdom, God has given our nation yet another chance to turn away from sin and return to His loving embrace.

That opportunity is November 2, 2010!

That’s the day voters will either embrace the culture of death that is being imposed on all of us by the pro-abortion extremists who control the powers of government ...

... or they will reject their empty promises and elect men and women who will guide our nation according to the precepts laid out in the Gospel of Life!

In either case, one thing is certain:

Millions of individuals will make their voting decision – including whether or not to even cast a ballot – based upon what they hear from their priests and pastors between now and November 2!

Which means that the most effective pro-life action you can take right now is to click here and help Priests for Life recruit, train and activate priests to be outspoken champions of life!

Never was their leadership more needed than it is right now!

That’s because, victory over abortion will only come through the Church!

he most important issue facing our nation this year is NOT the economy ... nor the “War on Terror” .. nor the environment.

Rather it is our duty as a nation to restore to our unborn brothers and sisters their unalienable RIGHT TO LIFE!!! Period!!!

It is for that reason that your task from now until those pivotal 2010 elections is to convince our fellow Americans that they MUST make their pro-life principles the deciding factor when they enter the voting booth on Tuesday, November 2!!!

And the best way for you to do that is to click here and help Priests for Life recruit priests and train priests to become energetic and effective leaders of our pro-life movement.

The first phase of our 2010 recruitment effort began the weekend of January 22 and 23 when we invited priests who were in Washington, D.C. for the “March for Life” and in San Francisco for the “Walk for Life” to take part in a special 45-minute “Teleseminar for Priests” that I led on Monday, January 25.

In spite of very short notice, many priests from every part of the country took part in this first “Teleseminar” and showed a high degree of enthusiasm when asked to help recruit more of their brother priests to join them as leaders in the fight to end abortion.

And that’s just the beginning of what we have planned for the next few months.

In fact, a second “Teleseminar for Priests” will take place on February 25.

What’s more, Priests for Life:

  • Sends its monthly newsletter to over 45,000 priests all across the country.
  • Produces pro-life liturgical resources and sends them to priests every week.
  • Provides priests with comprehensive and up-to-date pro-life materials that they can use when preparing their homilies. These can be read on our website – www.priestsforlife.org – and ordered from our Resource Department.
  • Included on the Priests for Life website is a special area that is just for priests. This section includes:
    • 17 actions priests can take to stop abortion
    • 11 different instructions on how to preach the Gospel of Life.
    • Over two dozen prayers priests can say each day ... as well as prayers they can lead their parishioners in saying.
    • Examples of inserts for weekly parish bulletins.

In addition to all that, Priests for Life is conducting an aggressive campaign to recruit priests to sign the“Statement of Catholic Priests and Deacons on Political Responsibility.” The statement is an affirmation of total support for the Church’s teachings on all the life issues.

You can click here to read the full statement.

Since our ultimate goal is to have every priest in the country sign the “Statement” we will leave no stone unturned as we work to get as many priests to sign it as we can.

And once they do, Priests for Life will use the statement in a non-partisan way to alert various media outlets around the country that the Catholic priests of the United States share a common commitment to life.

As word about the numbers of priests who have signed our “Statement” gets out, it will inspire more priests to sign the “Statement” themselves.

Additionally, it will let countless numbers of faithful priests know that they are not alone when it comes to accepting the totality of the Church’s teachings on the life issues!

That in turn will energize them and inspire them to preach the Gospel of Life with even greater passion and lead their people onto the battlefield where they will join us in our fight to end abortion!

And as I told you a moment ago, never has our nation needed our priests more than it does now ...

... as well as all the new recruits they will lead into the battle.

Nothing less than the survival of our nation is at stake!

This November 2 will be a decisive day, not only for our nation, but for tens of millions of our unborn brothers and sisters.

So do whatever it takes to help Priests for Life defend their lives and lead America down the path that leads to LIFE!

And if I may ask you one more favor. Each year I survey our supporters to learn how we can serve their needs more effectively. After giving your donation, would you take a moment and fill out the short survey I've placed at www.priestsforlife.org/survey. It is very important to me to know what you're thinking about our ministry!

Thank you.

And know that just as I ask you to pray for our nation’s priests, as well as for me and our hard-working Priests for Life staff, so we pray for you; especially at every Mass our priests offer. May God bless you.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Terri's Day (PFL)

"Terri's Day" - March 31
March 31, 2010 is the fifth anniversary of the murder of Terri Schiavo.
On that day, the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation (www.TerrisFight.org), in collaboration with Priests for Life, again observes the “International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo, and All of Our Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters” (“Terri’s Day”).
This year, for the first time, Terri’s family is without the physical presence of Robert Schindler, Sr., who died on August 29, 2009.
During these weeks, we invite everyone to learn more about Terri, and to pray for all whose lives are threatened in the same way that hers was.
We invite Churches to hold memorial services and to educate their people on the dignity of every human life, despite disability or disease.
We invite educational institutions to help dispel the myths and inaccuracies about Terri’s life and death, and to contribute to a mature reflection on the ethical demands of caring for the weak and vulnerable.
We invite all people to use the resources on our website and to help us continue to draw good out of the sad and tragic way in which Terri was treated.
At TerrisDay.org, you will find prayers, outlines for memorial services, homily hints, and other suggested activities for this important observance.

Blessed Margaret of Castello – Feast Day, April 13
Blessed Margaret of Castello was beatified on Oct. 19, 1609. She was born to a wealthy family, and when they saw that she was hunchback, dwarf, blind and lame, they were ashamed of her and kept her hidden from view. Eventually, to make sure nobody saw her condition, the family kept her enclosed in a prison-like cell. One day they took her to a Franciscan Shrine, but then abandoned her there.
Despite her miseries, Margaret was serene, cheerful and courageous. She found strength in prayer, in daily Mass, in Holy Communion, and eventually became a sister of the order of St. Dominic. She has become an inspiration to those who are discouraged and tempted to self-pity. Her story likewise provides a good examination of conscience. If we were around at the time of Blessed Margaret and knew that her family was keeping her in a cell, would we have spoken up for her?
Please join the Priests for Life family in helping to further the cause for her canonization by saying the following prayers. For more information visit priestsforlife.org/margaretofcastello.
Prayer in Honor of Blessed Margaret of Castello
Father,
Your care extends to every human person,
No matter what afflictions they suffer,
And you uphold the dignity of every human life,
Regardless of the false ways that the world may calculate its value.
You gave us Blessed Margaret of Castello as a sign and a challenge.
You permitted your glory to shine through her human weakness,
And called those around her to love her
Despite her physical limitations.
Forgive us when we fail to defend the least among us.
Through the intercession of Blessed Margaret,
Give us grace to speak up for the outcast
and to welcome those who are rejected.
When this brief life is over,
Grant that we who have welcomed all our brothers and sisters,
May be welcomed by you into the life that never ends.
We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Good News (SBA)

There is a reason the Susan B. Anthony List is the most effective pro-life grassroots activism organization. That reason is you.

Yesterday, I asked you to call Minority Leader Boehner’s office right away and ask him to force the President to go on record about the pro-life Stupak Amendment at the health care summit tomorrow. Well, thanks to your quick actions, Minority Leader Boehner has received our message loud and clear.

My sources on Capitol Hill are reporting that Minority Leader Boehner’s office has been inundated with our calls asking him to support pro-life efforts and to bring up the issue of abortion funding in health care reform. We have been assured that he is committed to our cause and will work tirelessly to oppose taxpayer-funded abortion in health care reform.

What’s more, Minority Leader Boehner sent a letter to President Obama this afternoon, asking him to include Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) in the health care meeting tomorrow. The Minority Leader reminded President Obama that there no issue has received more bipartisan support than the opposition to federal funding of abortion. If the President really wishes to proceed in a bipartisan fashion, the voice of the majority of Americans must be brought to the table. You can read the letter here.

Thank you so much, carol, for your rapid response yesterday. You may not know this but SBA List activists have sent over one million letters to keep abortion out of health care! Together we are standing up against the abortion advocates in the White House and Congress, and protect the lives of unborn boys and girls.

Breaking the Law

Our New Undercover Video Snags Planned Parenthood Ignoring Sexual Abuse

As many of you know, our hidden camera investigations of the abortion industry have uncovered counseling negligence, medical misinformation, and failure to report sexual abuse. If you are not familar with this work, our website has the undercover video we shot in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Phoenix, Tucson, Memphis,Birmingham, and Appleton.

Now we bring you Milwaukee, Wisconsin where a Planned Parenthood staffer ignores a case of sexual abuse in violation of state law:

As our other video footage shows, we find this sort of legal violation happening all over the country. The abortion industry, and its leader Planned Parenthood, has shown callous disregard for state laws that they disagree with. Instead of following the law like everyone else, they ignore ones that don't suit their operation.

Read our related press release titled, "Undercover Tape at WI Planned Parenthood Shows 10th Case of Child Sex Abuse Coverup"

Media reports say that the local Wisconsin authorities are looking into our newly released video and we plan to send them the full footage later today.

Abortion is a "Wild Card" (SBA)

The New York Times reported on Friday that President Obama's health care proposal is being written so that it can be attached to a budget bill in order to avoid a filibuster from Senate Republicans -- a procedure known as reconciliation.

The Times also reported that "Democrats said it was still unclear how the president would deal with other disagreements, including the issue of insurance coverage for abortions. Abortion remains 'a wild card,' said a Democrat on Capitol Hill."

The issue of abortion is not resolved, and it is absolutely critical that you contact your Representative and your two Senators right now and make it clear to them that Abortion is NOT Health Care!

It is also critical that we keep the pressure on the pro-life Democrats in the House over the next few days to ensure that they don't cave to party pressure from Nancy Pelosi.

In order to pass a health care bill through reconciliation, the House of Representatives would have to pass the Senate version of the health care bill, which does NOT contain the Stupak Amendment to protect human life.

So far we have seen no signs of Obama's willingness to take on Senator Boxer, Senator Feinstein and the abortion lobby to exclude abortion from health care. But what he has made clear is that he considers abortion legitimate health care.

It is up to a fragile coalition of pro-life Democrats and Republican colleagues to keep abortion out of health care reform.

Contact your two Senators and your Representative today and tell them to reject any bill that does not explicitly exclude funding for abortion.

It is absolutely critical that you contact your Representatives right now to ensure your voice is heard.

I can tell you that we are doing everything we can here in Washington to keep up the pressure. On Friday, the SBA List released two letters signed by 31 leading pro-life groups requesting first that Obama explicitly exclude abortion funding in any proposal, and second that GOP leadership raise the abortion funding issue first in any bipartisan talks. Click here to view the two letters.

Our press tour, radio ads, and patch-though robo-calls in January laid the groundwork, now we are counting on you, carol, to remind your Representatives what is at stake and that you are watching them closely.

Thank you for your continued dedication to keeping Abortion out of Health Care!

PS: The New York Times reported today that Abortion remains the "Wild Card" in health care reform. It is absolutely critical that you contact your two Senators and your member of the House of Representatives and remind them that Abortion is NOT Health Care and demand that they reject any bill that does not protect innocent human life.

Breaking News: 72 Hours to Final Health Care Bill (SBA)

Congressional Quarterly is reporting that the final health care proposal is going to be released by the White House "as early as Feb 21," just three days from today.

Democrats are aggressively putting together a coalition to get a health care bill passed. With a final version coming out as early as Sunday, it is clear that Democrats know they are on the verge of having the votes they need to move forward, and they have a way to do it that is filibuster-proof:

"The most likely way forward is for the House to clear the Senate’s health care bill (HR 3590) and for the Senate to pass a package of changes to it, using the filibuster-proof budget reconciliation process. That set of changes would incorporate the deals struck with the House, which would then send the new package to the White House. Obama would first sign the original Senate bill, then the “corrections” package. The last measure signed into law would be the one that dictates the final shape of the overhaul."

You see, the House passed Stupak language that saves lives and protects taxpayers from funding abortion, but it was stripped in the Senate version. With pressure mounting for the House to pass the Senate version, lives are at stake.

Obama has refused to address the issue of abortion and I have zero confidence that he is going to keep abortion funding out of his proposal. And with the immense amount of pressure that Pelosi and Reid have been applying on pro-life Democrats, we cannot let a single one of them cave.

That's why we must move quickly. We've been working around the clock to put together a coalition of like-minded groups, leaders, and activists to press for Stupak language that protects innocent human life in the final bill.

We are in the final stretch. This is when your help -- your financial support and prayers -- counts the most. We must keep up the pressure on these pro-life Democrats to hold their ground, stick to their principles, and stand for women and the unborn.

Sincerely,

Marjorie Dannenfelser

Stop Abortion Funding! (SBA)

While we were blanketed by snow this past week in Washington, President Obama has been gearing up to make another attempt at healthcare reform. This time he has said it will be a bipartisan effort.

The President recently said “Let's just go through these bills — their ideas, our ideas — let's walk through them in a methodical way so that the American people can see and compare what makes the most sense.”

Passing a healthcare reform bill is very important to the President, but can all of America agree on a few key principles? This time around, will he listen to the majority of Americans?

Eighty percent of taxpayers reject public funding of abortion. One quarter of his own party has already stood up to reject abortion coverage and the President’s position by voting for the Stupak Amendment in the House.

Tell President Obama that you are part of the 80% of Americans who do not want to pay for abortions.

Across all demographics Americans and their legislators are agreed in opposing abortion coverage in healthcare. If the President refuses to heed the will of the American people, he sends the message that abortion on-demand is more precious than any possible healthcare reform.

Tell President Obama that taxpayer funded abortion is a bipartisan issue.

Say “NO” to government funding of abortion on-demand once and for all and move on to discuss true health care reform.

President Obama is facing a crossroads. He must either reveal why he is so insistent on abortion funding—which will, without a doubt, derail healthcare reform entirely—or else drop the issue. On the other hand, the American people know exactly what they want: clear language that says our tax dollars will not be used to pay for the killing of innocent unborn boys and girls.

The president promised to “protect the consciences of taxpayers” on abortion, but his words have not been reflected in his actions, and he is loosing ground. You and I in the pro-life movement know that we will not give up anytime soon. From the tidal wave of grassroots activism this year, to the amazing crowds at the March for Life, to the bipartisan support of the Stupak amendment—the pro-life American majority is growing, and will not back down.

Tell President Obama that he must support a bipartisan effort to keep taxpayer funded abortion out of health care reform.

If the President wants to get anywhere in this health care debate, they need to begin by eliminating the worst ideas. Across all demographics, 80% of Americans agree, taxpayers should not be forced to pay for the destruction of human life.

For Life,

Marjorie Dannenfelser
